Serious House is a typeface first and foremost inspired by illustrator Dave McKean’s lettering work in the 1989 Batman comic titled “Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth.” The decorative elements of certain glyphs, like swirls and uneven strokes, reflect the rough illustrations and grungy lettering in McKean’s work. Available in one weight, the typeface is intended for display use, but can be adapted to smaller sizes like subheadings.
Paired with an illustration, the typeface is in use for the titles on a concept variant cover for Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s 1996 comic book titled “Batman: The Long Halloween.” The typeface features capital letters with lowercase alternates for all vowels.
